Snack Foods |
 |
Much like in the US and Canada young people and adults in Germany have an astounding variety of snack foods to choose from. Besides the usual suspects of chocolate bars, candy and salty snacks such as potato chips and pretzels, Germans also love to snack on more healthy products including fruits, nuts and a huge selection of dairy products like yogurt, quark snacks, puddings or rice pudding. |
 |
Fruit Quark(Fruchtquark)
Quark is a very popular dairy product in Germany which is all but unavailable in North America (except for a few specialized dairies). It is made from curdled milk and has a texture similar to ricotta cheese but differs from its Italian counterpart in its nicely tart flavor. This popular dairy staple is available plain or in a variety of fruit and savory flavors. While the plain version is mostly used for cooking and baking and the savory varieties is used as bread topping or served with potatoes, the different fruit flavors (such as strawberry, peach, or exotic fruits) are very popular as healthy, filling snacks.

meal. All in all, there is about a quarter of a peanut in every peanut flip.

Trail Mix(Studentenfutter)
Studentenfutter literally means "student feed." This is a classic snacking mix similar to the North America trail mix, that contains dried fruit, mostly raisins as well as unsalted nuts such as peanuts, walnuts, hazelnuts, pecans, cashews and pine nuts. This popular snack owes its name to the particularly healthy mix of essential nutrients and serves as an excellent source of energy for thinkers and athletes alike.
